Broomsticks & Stones Curling Bonspiel 2025

For the past five years, Century 21 Heritage Group in cooperation with Easter Seals Ontario, has held its annual curling bonspiel at the York Curling Club in Newmarket. This year’s theme was in the spirit of Halloween and aptly named “Broomsticks & Stones.”

Experienced curlers and those new to the game joined in the fun to raise money for Easter Seals Kids.  16 teams of four swept their way down the ice with two very slightly competitive draws 🙂

The day began around 8:30 am with breakfast donated by Steve Varga’s Tim Hortons in Keswick and delicious blueberry pancakes and syrup were conjured up in the club’s kitchen. The more experienced curlers flew to the ice at 9:00 am. When they were finished around 11:00 am, the “new to the game” curlers got their spooky breakfast fill and then flew to the ice for their first draw. A tasty lunch was served around 12:00 pm which consisted of beef, chicken and brussels sprouts tacos donated by Ghost Taco‘s cauldrons in Newmarket. Before the second draw in the afternoon, awards were given out for the Kevin Hall Spirit award and Easter Seals Service awards. There was also a raffle and and eerily silent auction to add to the fun. The final winners were announced at the end of the two draws and each team was given four cases of Ghost Taco Cerveza donated by the Market Brewing Company in Newmarket. The winning teams cast wicked spells against the losing teams unfortunately but it was all in true Halloween spirit!
